Without prologue, but with much fanfare the Tour de France kicked off today in Brest, France. This will be an interesting tour to watch for the many sub-plots:

No prologue – the French apparently took offense to Fabian Cancellara and did away with it this year
No bonus points for sprints or stage wins – You still get points toward the classification win but no ride in a plutonium powered DeLorean
No defending champion – ASO who manages the race barred Team Astana (famous for flaunting PED use) who is now under new management and ridership, including 2007 Champion Alberto Contador and 3rd Place Levi Leipheimer, this spurred LetLeviRide.com
New Teams – With the absence of Astana and the retirement of Discovery, places were opened up for some new guys, Slipstream, now Garmin/Chipotle and High Road, now Columbia. Both these teams have been very active in the fight against doping and hope to provide positive peer pressure to the peloton.
The favorites – Cadel Evans, Damiano Cunego, Denis Menchov, Carlos Sastre and the winner of Stage 1 today, Alejandro Valverde. I personally like Cadel or Valverde.

23 days until Paris!

Happy 4th of July! A grand thank you to those who have or are serving to protect our land and to make it great. To those who gave up so much to declare independence from their home country and defend the new soil. Those who signed their name to grant freedom and ultimately gave up their homes, families and freedoms to be persecuted by the British. May we never elect a leader who despises the symbols of freedom that make us strong. God Bless America!

The Sonics are coming, the Sonics are coming…well not the Sonics technically, but the team owned by the Professional Basketball Club based in Oklahoma City. After the trial, but before the judgment the two sides, PBC and City of Seattle, came to an agreement that has PBC paying Seattle for breaking the lease. Along with this PBC leaves the name, colors and history for the opportunity for Seattle to be redeveloped. Which begs the questions Oklahoma City or Oklahoma so and sos, also what will the name be? And if the Mariners continue to play this bad, do we get them too?

Yesterday Maria and I celebrated 13 years of marriage. She had to work late so we stopped by a friend’s surprise birthday party and then grabbed at snack at Sonic, since the kids were staying at the neighbor’s. The next day we both took off work for our date, we had Bella and Breya at swim lessons, grabbed some lunch at a favorite spot and the played in Freda’s pool with no kids. We had a good time and are looking forward to 13 more years.

On the mere eve of this year edition of the Tour de France, this week starts off with Floyd Landis losing another appeal to retain his 2006 TdF crown. The evidence him was so compelling the court had no option but to fine him as well. I think it’s time to stop the appeals Floyd, when your defense isn’t an issue of innocence but blaming the French lab, you’re done. Serve your suspension and then come back and race clean.

The hammock was a genius idea. We (any possible combination of we) have spent much of the last 3 days enjoying it. Bella loves to lay out back and be read to, Maria loves the late evening lounging, Nathen likes hanging out with his sisters in it and I love knowing that for a few days I have hit hero status. Viva la Hammock!
